About me

I am a National Magazine Award-winning writer and editor. I work on the Culture desk at The Guardian and I am the features editor of Eighteen Bridges.

I was a story editor for Reader’s Digest and once upon a time, I lived in Montreal, where I worked at the travel magazine enRoute – a job that took me from the Galapagos to rural Wales to Myrtle Beach.

I write about such things as London foxescloud aficionados, and the Occupy movement for publications including The Walrus, The Globe and Mail, and Canadian Geographic. Oh, and once I profiled a bison whisperer.

I’m currently writing a book about modern nomads, drifters and mobile communities. Check out my research blog, themodernnomad.tumblr.com.

Here I am on Twitter.

I live in London.
